Take a look at this black beauty, Onyx. She and her foal, Tucker, were saved by the ranch moments before they were sent to slaughter. Tucker grew into a beautiful young man while at the ranch and was adopted in 2021.
Previously untouched and fearful of human interaction, Onyx is learning to trust her handlers and has made incredible progress. She’s a very intelligent mare with an independent personality. She can be difficult to halter in an open space but yields easily in a more confined area. Onyx circles extremely well on a lunge line and does well over obstacles if you lead her and not drive her. She loads in a trailer with some hesitancy and needs more coaching in facing forward. Onyx can be a bit skittish in new situations, but she always seems to overcome this with patient handling. Our trainers recently put a saddle and pad on Onyx and she responded very well. She also competed in our 2022 Training Challenge where she and her handler won most improved!
Despite her eccentricities it's easy to become enamored with her. This beautiful mare has come so far and deserves the right leader to help her find her potential.
