Wynonna
Mustang Mare
Born: 2017
Arrival: June 2021
13.2 hands
ONLINE SPONSOR: Rebecca B. and Jane G.
Six-year-old Wynonna was abandoned in southeastern New Mexico two years ago, so like many of the horses in our care, we don’t know much about her history. She was clearly unsocialized to humans, so our trainers had to spend a great deal of time before she was catchable.
Once you establish trust with her, Wynonna is very willing and works hard to follow handlers' cues even when frightened by obstacles. She quickly settles down even after getting nervous when learning a new skill. She has learned to load in a trailer well but is still learning to stand calmly once loaded. She’s unfazed by tarps and she side-passes well, though she’s working on keeping a calm walking gait while moving through obstacles.
Wynonna is a spirited mare and needs a seasoned handler, but she is one of those horses that with time, patience and encouragement has the potential to be a special lifelong companion.
