Stella

Grade Mare

Born: 2022

Arrival: October 2025

Halter trained and ground trained.

This cute mare does great with round pen work, standing for the farrier, and trailer loading and is quite confident around scary, noisy objects.

Health note: Stella has a previous diagnosis of juvenile osteoarthritis and has scar tissue around the stifle and hock, which is why it is recommended she not be ridden. There is a possibility that she will have some improvements when her growth plates finish closing around the age of 5-6, but to do so she would probably require specialized shoeing and ongoing maintenance starting around age 10 (injection of both hocks and both stifles). There is no guarantee that she will be sound enough to ride and if she is, she will only be able to do very light riding.

Later in life, previcoxx or another anti-inflammatory could be used for added support regardless of if she is rideable or a companion. It is also recommended that she only be on grass to limit excessive sugars, and a ration balancer could also be used to supplement.
