Roy was found by the Livestock Board in central New Mexico with Rocco, another gelding, and they both went unclaimed. Upon arrival, Roy was healthy but unfit. He’s lacking muscle, especially on his top line, but more regular ground exercise will improve this. His swayback prevents him from being ridden.
Roy is easy to catch, halter and groom, though his back legs hurt him when picked up. He also has a shoe boil (lump) on his armpit that our vet believes is old scar tissue, but it doesn’t cause him any pain. These are fairly common in older horses. We have him in a protective donut around his hoof currently to help the boil improve.
Roy’s demeanor and ability to get along with other horses would make him a wonderful companion to another equine.
